Mayflower  Housing 
  • The rigging is where they steer the sail.
  • There was over a hundred people on board and there was no privacy. 
  • Half of the people died on the journey across the ocean
  • Officers on board was served their meals before everyone else.
  • there were 55 ropes to pull on the Mayflower.
  • There was a storm that sent the Mayflower off course. They had to go to Plymouth to get supplies.
  • They mad a replica of the Mayflower.
  • If they weren't seasick they were bored.
  • The Mayflower was controlled by the wind.
  • They ate cheese and meat that would last for their journey.
  • The captain couln't see where he was going, so someone shouted down the directions.
  • The Mayflower was not a really big boat for that many people.
  • They used chamber pots.
  • The journey was rough and people got shook back and forth.  
  • Their roofs were made of straw.
  • The frame holds the house together.
  • They had a fence called a palisade.  
  • Their homes were made of wood and straw
  • They made their houses the way they looked in England. 
  • They had a fireplace.
  • The houses have a frame.
  • They had really small houses. 
Clothes  Food 
  • The boys and girls wore dresses before they were 6 or 7 years old.
  • They wore pockets on their dresses.
  • They used strings to hold their pants up.
  • The boys and girls wear a lot of clothing.
  • Their jackets were short.
  • No belts in the 17th century. 
  • The pilgrims ate with their hands.
  • They used only knives and spoons.
  • They ate mussels with bread.
  • They hunted ducks.
  • They ate hasty pudding.
  • They used a napkin towel to wipe their hands. 
Chores  School 
  • They had to fetch their own water.
  • Girls had to pick up straw and animal droppings to use in their garden.
  • The Pilgrims did not shower or bathe as often.
  • They drank fresh water.
  • They used wood to keep their house warm. 
  • They didn't have any schools.
  • They were home schooled by their parents.
  • They studied Bible verses.
  • Their parents taught them to read and write. 
Games  The First Thanksgiving 
  • They played a marble game.
  • They had to get duck to eat by shooting it.  
  • There was no turkey involved in the first Thanksgiving.
  • Pilgrim and Wampanoag kids played a game where they had to shoot a ring onto a pin.
  • The Wampanoag had to make their own shelter for the First Thanksgiving.
  • One of the games they played was shooting at a target.
